Nubia & The Justice League Special

Rondo of Blog - Published: November 29, 2022

This afternoon I read this special (written by Becky Cloonan, Michael Conrad, and Stephanie Williams) and it was a joy to read throughout!

I loved opening on Queen Nubia with Ollie & Dinah, and frankly their interactions with Nubia kinda ended up stealing the whole comic. :’D Oliver for being a fellow Queen, and Dinah for being a RAGING dyke for Nubia.

I hadn’t really read a comic focused on Nubia before this, and this definitely left a fantastic first impression. My beloved Cluster has told me nothing but good things about the character since her recent-ish resurgence, and this comic makes me very interested in reading more of her! I may post about them as I read through ‘em all.

The Black Adam ‘slander’ in this comic was also deeply appreciated, as someone who does nottt care about the character (haven’t seen the film yet, for the record). Nevertheless, Queen Nubia’s interactions with each of the Leaguers was fantastic.

Also, Batman speaking up only to immediately regret it was absolutely fucking adorable. xD Felt like there could’ve been a fun anime reaction where shadows are cast all around him and everyone’s like “aww Batman it’s ok“ while Batman’s like “I shouldn’t have said anythiiing.“

If I’m the one being asked, the comic is definitely worth picking up - and honestly? Nubia should get her own ongoing! I’ve been told by Cluster that she hasn’t really gotten one, which is such a shame! She could absolutely lead a comic, and I’d happily be among the readers rewarding such an investment in her character from DC. :)

PS: Dinah loves queens, it’s an established fact of the character.
